Mindfulness and Meditation

The link between stress and addiction is well-known. Stress increases the likelihood of alcohol and drug use, and can precipitate relapses following treatment. We recognize the critical need to incorporate stress management techniques into treatment. The goal is to assist clients to replace substance use with healthy coping skills when confronted with the inevitable stressors that threaten sobriety. Mindfulness meditation, originally derived from Buddhist Vipassana meditation, is the cornerstone of our program. We teach our clients with chronic physical, mental health and substance abuse problems how to significantly improve their lives.

At Satori, we practice various forms of Mindfulness to guide our clients in understanding this powerful self soothing tool for balancing their mind and body. One form is Mindfulness in Nature.

The purpose of Mindfulness in Nature is to help the clients master the practice of mindfulness in an environment that is conducive to being present in the moment. At Satori, we believe that learning and development of coping skills comes from a basic building block in which higher mastery skills may be developed from. Mindfulness in Nature takes the client to a quiet, natural setting to practice the art of mindfulness in real life, outside of the typical group environment. The group may be in a tranquil park, a beach setting, or even a desert trail. The client will pause and take in the environment without allowing thoughts to remove the client from the present moment.

Adventure Therapy

The Adventure Therapy Group is one of the critical pieces to the group- programming schedule as it allows the client to experience fun, thrill, and togetherness while being sober and clean. The client is afforded the opportunity to participate in an activity outside of the treatment facility to be able to connect with others including the staff and other clients in a social setting. The clients are able to get to know each other more personally as well as to participate in an activity they may have never attempted on their own. The activities vary greatly to offer the client a mix of pleasurable activities to incorporate into their life or as a coping strategy when life becomes overwhelming or stressful during their recovery process.

Our Clients enjoy activities such as Kayaking, Paddle-Boarding, Beach Cruising, Cycling, K-1 Races, Hiking, Bowling, Museums and Movies, just to name a few!

We understand the heartache and pain of addiction and the strength that can be gained from successful treatment.
